  1. Cornish art in Englands capital

Over a year ago the CERES secretariat noticed that the European Commissions’ Jean Monnet House was hosting a sequence of European-related art exhibitions. An off-the-cuff remark about a Cornish exhibition was met with surprising enthusiasm and, an organising team was created and the result is as follows.

During February the London offices of the European Commission, in association with the Gorsedh of Cornwall and CERES (the Centre for European Research within Cornwall), will host an exhibition of paintings by contemporary Cornish artists living and working in the Duchy. The work of nine artists will be represented and the event will mark a notable Cornish occasion, enabling aspects of Cornwall’s art to be made known to an internationally-based public.

The exhibition will be opened by Cornwall’s Grand Bard, Mrs Venessa Beeman, at a private viewing and reception at Jean Monnet House, 8 Storey’s Gate, Westminster (Tube: St James’s Park) on the evening of Tuesday 3 February. This will be followed by open days on Wednesday? Thursday and Friday of that week, and on Monday to Friday of the week thereafter.

Artists whose work will be exhibited include:

    Clive Carter
    Anthony Frost
    Francis Hewlett
    Ashley Hold
    Robert Jones
    Andrew Lanyon
    Margot Maeckelburghe
    Mary Martin
    Louise McClary

This is a great chance to raise Cornwall’s profile just that extra notch more so please do help in circulating this information to all who may be interested.

  2. ***Creative people???

    Hello there,

I would like to work on a collaborative art project that would provoke thought, discussion and maybe give people some kind of realisation about the current mess that society is in- I want to create something that is all about peace- working together- love- nature’s balance and harmony- i’d commit myself 100% to this project if only i could find the right people-

I mainly paint pictures at the moment-

    http://www.stuarthampton.blogspot.com

    but i make music also- albeit silly at the moment;

    http://www.myspace.com/theloonpods

i can also make short films and write poetry and other ideas- i have some good ideas for street performance and for sculpture- and want to use all of my skills to try and make a stand for peace and hummanity- love and respect……

I know- if enough of us gather together something good would come out of it-

    Email me at- stuarthamptonartwork@hotmail.co.uk

we could meet up and have a chat about what we may be able to create….

    Peace and love,

    stuart.

Here is one of my paintings entitled ‘time well spent’

I recommend getting involved with our Arts & Crafts group, “Darnit” (see other messages in this forum) – you’d be welcomed and have plenty of mutual interest to discuss.

See the calendar for all Transition Falmouth events.

      All the best,

      Rob

      • Like your painting, Stuart – what size is it?
Not sure that our next Darnit meeting (clothes swap) is quite what you’re looking for. To be honest most Darnit members lead busy lives and can only manage a few hours a month. However all TF group meetings seem to have artists and/or art students, BA/MA in their midst. Why don’t you come to a few and see how it goes?

  3. is this still active?

hi does this group still meet? just wondering cos there havent been any messages for a while but i’m interested in coming if you still meet – sophie

    • Hi Sophie,

The Darnit group is still very active – plenty of emails about it on our TFdiscuss mailing list, but not much on the website lately.

Next meeting dates will be in the Calendar soon – alternatively phone Sarah on Falmouth 314121 to find out more.

      • Wow Darnit looks really great. Is there any meetings planned before Sept 19th or in Dec/Jan time. Would love to go along when Im about (I am at uni in Cardiff). Would love to learn/improve these skills.

  4. Darnit in Oct, Nov and December

    Hi,

New dates to be added including two all day Saturday workshops between now and Christmas. Will email out the same info also.

    Sarah x

    • OK, I have sent out emails but just to confirm…

Next Darnit event is at Sallys from 7.30pm on Thursday 1st November with ‘show & tell’ ideas for Xmas gifts or wrapping. This is a prequel to an all day Saturday workshop on Decemer 1st also at Sallys from 10.30am to 4.30pm when we will be putting our ideas into action and doing something very useful on ‘no shopping day’ 😎

Please bring some food and refreshments to share. Feel free to contact Sarah on Falmouth 314121 if any other information is required. GREAT!! 😀
      so…

      …go Create

  5. Confirming Darnit meeting Thurs June 14th

    Hi all,

Just to confirm that the next meeting is June 14th (Thursday) at my place- 1 Windsor Court, Fal 314121 7pm for 7.30 onwards. This is an informal Darnit event as we are currently inbetween meetings and inbetween projects. It will be a good time to catch up with each other and plan ahead.

    Looking forward to seeing everyone

    Sarah X

  6. Next Darnit Meeting (May-June)

    Hey all,

The next Darnit meeting is up for discussion as Wednesday 30th May is already booked for a TF event. Any ideas for a craft group reschedule? We could look at another day/date in May or even have two events in June.

    Sarah 314121

    Stay crafty 😉

    XXXXX

  7. Recycling Clothing

At Darnit on Wednesday 25th April (7.00 until 9.00pm at Sally’s, 41A Church St.) we’ll be having a go at revamping old clothes – all welcome

  8. TF Seedy Saturday flag/banner

    Hi,

To all who couldn’t make it on Wednesday we have come up with the following:

A black canvas background approx 6ft x 2 ft to hang from windows above doorway of WI (thanx Sally and Doug for pics- really helped the desicion making process) We have a variety of coloured textiles and also painted up some colourful acrylic panels to cut out the letter shapes of ‘TRANSITION FALMOUTH’. This part of ther banner is permanent ( Bunk is gonna design/ applique the TF logo in a similar stlye).

Central to the banner is the temporary panel covered in blackboard paint so we can rewrite the TF event description using coloured chalks each time we reuse the banner.

When we meet on Sat 14th April we will cut out the letter shapes and applique them to the black canvas. We are gonna need quite hefty industrial needles to do this!We also need to create eyelets and attach string (or similar) to enable display.

Wednesday was fun and creative so thanks to everyone who came and I am looking forward to the next one Laughing

We also need to decide if we are gonna meet again next month (Wed 25th April) cos of additional Saturday April 14th meeting.

In the meantime If anyone wants to come around to continue painting panels then just give me a ring (sarah mobile: 07837075649 or 314121) and I am very happy to get creative again!

    Bye!

    • Hi Sarah,

Glad to hear the banner’s coming together – if you have some photos for the web site (banner and/or workshop) please email them to me, and I’ll add a TF Darnit gallery.

      Cheers,

      Rob

    • seedy sat banner
      Thanks busy bees.
Suggestion. I did a bit of measuring up at WI last night and can I humbly 🙂 (i tried an emoticon there and it hasn’t worked I expect there isnt a humble one) anyway I suggest a dowling pole through the top edge, should hold shape better and can hang from central window. Size 6 by 2 ok tho maybe could be a bit bigger than 2 (no wonder it wouldn’t do humble for me).

      cheers lorely

      • Oh dear, no ‘humbling’ emoticon? I think we need one and should request Rob to supply one especially for you lovely Lorely!!!

Sally sent us sum measurements etc and we decided (originally) against a pole however if one is required/necessary I am sure we could muster sumthing up. Are you around on the 14th to put the banner together???

    • Sarah, I am happy to host another meeting on the evening of Wednesday April 25 if others are up for it.
      Sally

  9. Banner Material
heya, Sarah here, just wonderin’ if we decided on a ‘back drop’ for the banner, wot material it is and is anyone prepared to bring it along 2 next meeting? cant remember wot we agreed about that

Fantastic site Rob and everyone else involved with the web design- kewl 🙂

    • I spoke with Sally today and gave her my general ideas as I am unable to make the meeting at yours. I understand that the material is being obtained by Hazel? If nothing is able to happen at that next mtg, I am happy (with help if available) to put something together for the 21st April.
      cheers everyone out there.

    • Just to remind all that the next arty crafy group is at my place on Wednesday Eve the 28th of March. Am at 1 Windsor Court, Falmouth 314121. All welcome from 7 pm onwards- we are making the banner for ‘Seedy Saturday’ so bring wotever materials you wish, c u there

      sarah X

    • I have aquired a navy blue largish piece of canvas and a largish black peice of canvas type material plus sum colourful remants that could be used to shape words and applique. Also Sally has sent me sum fotos of the front of WI building so we can estimate how the banner how will hang & look. Unfortunately both Lorely & Sally 🙁 cannot make the next meeting but I shall be there (its my place! 😉 ) with materials and enthusiasm and sum red wine. Hope to see you there!

      Sarah X

    • Hello Sarah,
How did the meeting go and how far have you progressed with the banner? Should I be tracking down extra fabrics or threads or anything else, for that matter, for Sat 14th?
      Sally

      • Hiya Sally, if you check out the next article called ‘Seedy Saturday banner’ you will see that I have briefly written out wot we achieved last Wednesday night and wot we intend to do on the 14th. If you have any brightly coloured materials tho, they may be useful for next meeting- also needles.

        Sarah X
