Following representations from various bodies, including Transition Falmouth, Cornwall Council voted unanimously at its meeting of 16th April to adopt the Sustainable Communities Act.
Detailed guidance on its implementation will follow on the council’s website, but in the meantime more information can be accessed from the Local Works organisation at http://www.localworks.org/pages/the-sustainable-communities-act.
Embracing the “bottom-up” principle, the Act puts an obligation on councils to “reach agreement” with local people on the ideas/proposals they receive before they go to government for consideration (where appropriate).
Town and Parish councils will also be able to submit proposals in their own right.
More information to follow in due course.
