Changing or Recycling Mobile Phones:
Which Magazine offers comprehensive advice on the best ways of recycling or changing your mobile phones. A wide range of charities will take your old mobile or tablet to raise funds e.g. Oxfam, British Heart Foundation, Air Ambulance, Barnado’s to name just a few. Call into local charity shops to check. It is highly recommended that you wipe your old mobile clean of data before parting with it, whether donating or exchanging for a new model.
Research Group – Material Focus – has calculated that the UK buys more than a billion tech items including USB sticks, earphones, cables, miniature fans, adaptors and phone-chargers every year, and bin around half of them, not to mention laptops, old mobile phones and associated stuff. A lot of these items can be reused or recycled – notably the special metals like copper, gold, platinum and cobalt which can be used again. Do think of using household recycling centres or Curry’s, Treliske Retail Park, Truro, for recycling old tech free of charge, or donating to local charities – see this guide for examples.
