Mylor Community Orchard

Great to see Mylor’s new Community Orchard fully planted out by volunteers from the local community and school! They really have been hard at work, ably led by Simon Trehane and Tom Kemp.

The footpath through the orchard site is now in place, and provides a very pleasant alternative pedestrian route from Six Turnings to the village.

The result of their efforts is an orchard fully stocked with a rich variety of apples, pears, plums, cherries, damsons, quinces, medlars, mulberries, cobnuts, chestnuts, walnuts and almonds

They have a grant approved with National Landscapes, formerly the AONB, which funded the path, and will also pay for four picnic tables, a 2-wheeled motor scythe, a door for the shed, hand tools, and pukka labels for all the trees. The project also has other offers of funding which will help them do more including buying an interpretation board for the tennis court entrance, a welcome sign for the Six Turnings entrance, recipe book, and more.

More volunteers are always welcome! Next session is on Sunday 22nd March, 10am to 2pm. From their mailing list and magazine article:

We should have the picnic tables by then so bring some food and drink and we can christen them. We have a variety of jobs to do. Barrows, spades, shovels, mattocks, rakes, forks, gloves, etc. will be useful. We hope very much that you’ll be able to come and do what you can/fancy. *

… Many thanks for bringing us this far to: The Playing Field Committee, our funders to date (Forest for Cornwall, and UK Shared Prosperity Fund), our volunteers and the school children, staff and parents
