A review of our principal activities for the past twelve months reveals that Transition Falmouth and its Core Group have had a busy and constructive year – see link here
The stand-out highlight has been supporting our sister organisation – the Fal Energy Partnership – in its bid to secure funding for Falmouth’s first Community Renewable Energy Project.
The Solar for Dracaena Crowdfunding Project caught the imagination of many across Cornwall and beyond, resulting in 97 supporters raising nearly £6500 towards the installation of solar panels on the roof of the Dracaena Community Centre in Falmouth. We look forward to the grand unveiling sometime in the New Year (or earlier) once the full amount of funding is in place.
We also look forward to the Government’s long-awaited Resources and Waste Strategy due to be launched later in the year which, together with Cornwall’s new Strategy, should help address resource depletion and give a much-needed boost to waste reduction, reuse and recycling across all sectors of the community. Plastic pollution continues to cause great concern amongst Transition groups and we continue to support all initiatives – large and small – to tackle this profoundly serious issue.
Other topics will continue to be on the agenda for the coming year, including local food security, community housing and well-being, biodiversity protection and sustainable transport.
