The programme of closures proposed by Post Office Ltd for Cornwall is due to be announced on 15th July together with Dorset – it is anticipated that approximately sixty sub-offices will be ear-marked for closure across the two areas (Source : Federation of Small Businesses – Cornwall Region).
How many and where in Cornwall is not yet clear. The official Post Office website is – www.postoffice.co.uk/networkchange – and interested parties are encouraged to keep in touch through this channel and the media.
There will be a six-week consultation period during which concerned individuals and organisations can lodge their views on the proposed closures. The Government is still committed to its programme of reducing the network by 2,500 offices – and recently won a very close vote in the House of Commons to continue with the programme – so the prospects of retaining the network in Cornwall in its current form are not looking good.
Information on how local communities can respond will be in the media and on key websites – keep in touch with this key (sustainable) community issue.
