There are now three official Re-Use Centres in Cornwall run by Recycling Westcountry (for SITA).
The one currently closest to the Transition Falmouth catchment area can be located at :-
Mount Hawke Garage, Highfield Road, Mount Hawke nr. St.Agnes
Contact Lee on 07920 290339
Other centres can be found at Hayle and Liskeard. The address of the Hayle Centre is :-
Unit 10c, Central Garage, Hayle Terrace, Hayle
Contact Richard on 07733 230263
Opening Times : Monday to Friday 9am-4 pm
The Centres hold a range of re-usable items – mostly small furniture, household effects, bric-a-brac and some electrical goods.
Most items are recovered by Recycling Westcountry from the SITA Household Waste Recycling Centres (at e.g. Helston and United Downs) where punters used to be able to purchase re-usable goods “on the spot”.
This practice has now ceased under the new waste arrangements, principally on health and safety grounds. Re-usable items should now be being stored for collection by Recycling Westcountry and removed to their Re-Use Centres for re-sale.
The Centres may take some items direct. Phone the above numbers for advice and directions.
Recycling Westcountry is based in Hayle and can be contacted on 01736 752277
Note: While there is currently no “Re-Use” centre serving the Transition Falmouth area, there are a number of charities trading in furniture and household effects. Cornwall Hospice Care will shortly be launching its new furniture shop in Penryn. More news on this and other developments to follow.
