Cornwall Gleaning Network

Volunteers glean surplus produce from farms and orchards and bring fresh edible food to those who need it. No good food should go to waste!

The DCFA collects donated surplus food from food producers and major retailers, and distributes from their hub in Plymouth to a range of community organisations across Cornwall in return for a £25 donation, who in turn re-distribute to those in need – thus helping reduce food poverty. Currently covers the Helston/Hayle area – and a base in Truro is planned.

Falmouth Food Co-op

Falmouth Food Co-op is a food hub. They support local producers of agroecological food by providing a really useful resource for local community use, and also cook and deliver good quality meals to people in Falmouth and Penryn who need support.

The Co-op also organises monthly feasts using surplus donated food from local producers and growers.

The Dracaena Centre (Falmouth)

The Centre runs a Food Market which caters for families and individuals who need help putting food on the table – donated by local suppliers. Takes place on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 10.30 am to 12.00 pm

The Centre also hosts a community fridge offering a range of fresh vegetables, fruit and other donated foodstuffs – which might otherwise go to waste. Open Monday-Friday 10am-2pm Saturday 10-12pm

Ready-made meals are also available for collection from the Centre every Thursday, cooked and delivered by the Falmouth Food Co-op

The Hive Cornwall (Helston area)

is a charitable organisation diverting surplus food – which would otherwise go to waste – to those in need. Achieved recognition in the Cornwall Sustainability Awards 2020 as Runner Up in the Green Innovation in the time of Coronavirus Category.

Waste Food Collection Services:

Cornwall Council’s New Household Service launched – March 2025

Householders in Cornwall are now offered a weekly food waste kerbside collection service.

Waste food collected will be transferred to an Anaerobic Digester in Holsworthy, Devon, which will create clean, renewable energy, and a fertiliser by-product. For more information visit https://www.stgreenpower.co.uk/food-waste-recycling
