Co Cars car club gauges demand for shared electric bikes and cars in Falmouth and Penryn

Have you ever needed an alternative to a car for shorter trips such as commuting, everyday errands and leisure trips, but worry about troublesome hills on a push-bike? Co Bikes e-bikes are the perfect solution; as they’re electrically assisted, they make cycling a breeze – even uphill.  Need a car occasionally or for longer trips but don’t want the cost and hassle of owning one?

Transition Falmouth and Transition Truro played a key role over many years in raising awareness locally of car clubs.  The level of community interest shown through this involvement helped the car club operator, Co-Cars, in their bid for funding to extend their operation to Falmouth and Truro (as well as other locations in Devon).

Supported and funded by Cornwall Council, the Department for Transport, and Great Western Railways Co-cars launched cars in Falmouth and Truro in May 2017.  The cars are available to book from as little as half an hour.

There is now an exciting opportunity to bring Co Bikes, their shared electric bike scheme, to both Falmouth and Penryn. Bikes could be rented and returned from locations around both towns. At the same time, Co Cars would like to upgrade their existing cars to electric cars. Together, they would help tackle congestion, parking and pollution problems, whilst providing affordable access to low/zero emission vehicles for all.

Co Cars is a not-for-profit cooperative social enterprise that successfully runs a network of shared, low and zero-emission cars across the South West. The company also runs the Co Bikes electric bike sharing scheme.

To help them gauge interest in Co Bikes and shared electric vehicles coming to Falmouth and Penryn, please take a couple of minutes to complete the short survey:

which will be live until 31 July 2021.

If you would like further information on Co Cars or Co Bikes, visit www.co-cars.co.uk and www.co-bikes.co.uk.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this proposal.

  1. Great news, a fleet of e-bikes in and around Falmouth & Penryn would, I am sure, be massively popular. Please support by filling in the survey above!
