‘Energy Democracy’ and FEP at Cafe Sci on 19th April

Energy Democracy – how can we achieve it and why is it a good idea for Falmouth?

Currently 98% of the £1billion we spend on energy leaves Cornwall and 15% of households live in fuel poverty. Yet we could be generating, owning and using our energy locally to reduce bills.

Renewables present the perfect opportunity for citizens to own and manage the sources of their energy and revitalise their communities.

In Germany the Energiewende, or ‘energy transformation’ has been driven by citizens for citizens and is official energy policy. In the UK we have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to democratise our energy system before the big utilities tie it up once again.

What does it mean to democratise our energy, why should we be pushing for it and what can we learn from the Germans?

Members of the Fal Energy Partnership (www.falenergy.co.uk) will be discussing these questions at Cafe Sci at the Poly from 7.45 on 19th April and presenting their plans for our area. All welcome.

Energy Democracy – it’s now or never!
