Transition Falmouth has received welcome news that Cornwall Council, in conjunction with its contractors Cory Environmental and Suez, will launch its new plastics recycling trial as from 30th November and it will last for six months.

Not all plastics are covered, but the Trial does represent a significant improvement in the range of plastics that can be accepted from the kerbside for recycling – see http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/potstubstrays for the full list.

Although the Trial catchment area covers 46,000 households across mid Cornwall – see map – not all properties are included, on account of the contractor following certain collection routes to allow for the extra plastics collected to be isolated at their depot, in order to gauge the success (or otherwise) of the Trial.

Every participating household should by now have received an explanatory leaflet through the post – householders can also check if they are included by visiting the above web link and entering their postcode. Extra bags can also be ordered up if required.

There are indications from official sources that if the Trial is successful the new service will be rolled out across Cornwall in 2016.

TF supporters and many others will welcome this news, given the mounting concern over low recycling rates in Cornwall; increased pollution of our marine and wider environment from plastic waste/litter, and the loss of valuable resources to landfill and incineration.
